Teams I’ve joined
Contract and full time roles (often at the same company) have shown me what collaboration looks like from both vantage points.
Recent
Klaviyo, Director (IC)
As a director in an individual contributor role, conscious agreements were crucial to making progress within ambiguous and quickly changing conditions. I worked closely with my managing director, producers, and creative team to agree on creative strategy, reviews, and approvals in an agile, real-time way.
Notes on this role:
Fluid movement between multiple squads, channels, and initiatives
Strategic, creative, and technical approaches to concepting and execution
Prioritizing and negotiating with producers for short and long term workflows
Anticipating when to direct and where to take direction
Navigating IPO in a supporting role
Root Inc, Director (Managing)
As a people leader, I was responsible for a team of 5–7 designers, spanning 5 squads. Assessing where to go deep, and where to be hands off was crucial to this role. Recognizing that a direct report can learn more from another mentor or a riskier role (then moving them closer to those things) was a constant strategic assessment.
Notes on this role:
Team building, hiring, reviews, and leveling
CMS development of design system, content migration, and optimizations
Tailoring approach to B2C, B2B, enterprise, and internal audiences
Agile workflow using Scrum methodology
Complex management with direct and dotted lines
Navigating IPO in a leadership role
Various clients, Contractor
I’ve loved taking on contract roles in between long-term commitments (including 2 years exclusively covering maternity leaves). My exposure to a variety of environments, cultures, channels, systems, roles, and materials has grown, making it possible to continue integrating with teams on shorter, more targeted terms.
Clients have included:
Bath & Body Works, DSW, Highlights for Children, EXPRESS, Justice, Lane Bryant, Intapp, Klaviyo, and Root Inc.
History
A lot of what I learned while paying my early dues DID NOT come naturally, and I count learning to face those obstacles as a crucial component of my working philosophy. That awareness continues to shape my outlook on identifying when one’s gifts aren’t an ideal match for the job versus the need to build resilience.
